Meet Cliff Burt – Our Head Chef

Cliff started his chef training at catering college in Plymouth and then went onto work at the nearby Mayflower Hotel. He has spent his career working mostly in 4 to 5 star hotels and 2 rosette restaurants as Head Chef. Cliff spent the last 15 years working around Oxfordshire, but he always knew that his real home was here in Cornwall.

As a youngster, Cliff loved to head out fishing with his dad and brother in their small family fishing boat. He loved nothing more than going onto the beach to pick cockles. Before settling in Cornwall in November 2015, he loved to visit on holiday each year, enjoying BBQs on the beach with his family. Now settled in the local area, Cliff even finds time to grow some of his own fruit and vegetables.

We can’t part Cliff from his favourite kitchen gadgets – a Thermomix, Pacojet and his trusty blow torch! His guilty pleasure is the traditional and much-loved Cornish pasty.

Cliff enjoys visiting small town markets and tasting the locally grown produce. He loves Tom Kerridge’s style of food – clean and bringing back old classic dishes with a modern twist.

It is Cliff’s goal to bring value for money to The Llawnroc Hotel, giving customers the very best of Cornish quality with his style of fresh, seasonal, local and modern English food. He has been working on his new menu with local suppliers and likes to involve all the Llawnroc chefs, making them all valued members of the kitchen team. Cliff gets a real buzz from training chefs, knowing that he has played a part in their professional journey.
